LightingEurope's visual emergency lighting guide published

The LightingEurope Association publishes a visual guide to provide a comprehensive overview of the correct installation and maintenance of emergency lighting.

LightingEurope is a Brussels-based association representing 32 national lighting companies and associations. LightingEurope has recently developed a visual guide on emergency lighting, to provide professionals with a comprehensive overview on proper installation and maintenance, referring to the latest industry standards and legislation.
The objective of this guide is to inform on the specificities of emergency lighting applications and to provide concrete support to ensure that the installation, operation and maintenance of luminaires comply with the standards and legislative requirements.

Why a visual guide on emergency lighting?

The function, duties and technical specifications of emergency luminaires differentiate them from general lighting applications.

Therefore, the main objective of this guidance document is to offer support by providing
  • definitions of key terms (main functions, types of emergency lighting)
  • practical examples on relevant issues, such as emergency lighting specifications in various application areas
  • a concise overview of the latest applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements for emergency lighting.

In addition, the guide emphasises the importance of continuous risk assessment and maintenance of emergency lighting and provides recommendations for appropriate testing and inspection for various emergency lighting applications.

Who created this guide?
This visual guide was created by emergency lighting experts from the LightingEurope group dedicated to emergency lighting, including Beghelli.

The guide is part of LightingEurope's mission: to raise awareness of the importance of emergency lighting as an essential part of a building's overall safety and to promote technical developments that facilitate the required maintenance.

Elena Scaroni, Secretary General of LightingEurope, said: "Emergency lighting is essential for creating a safer building environment by facilitating safe evacuation in the event of an emergency, enabling the safe movement of building occupants and helping to safely extinguish potentially hazardous processes. LightingEurope is proud to publish a comprehensive guide to this critical life-saving technology."

Simon Wessels, LightingEurope's Head of Policy, added: "This guide was developed with the help of LightingEurope members who are experts in the field. We are grateful to be able to use their experience in this field to produce such a useful document that can help every building and lighting professional access the fascinating world of emergency lighting."
